A MORNING LITURGY FOR THE FAMILY
1. Invocation (all shall make the sign of the cross and say): In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

2. Luther’s Morning Prayer: I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray You to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the wicked foe may have no power over me. Amen.

3. The Small Catechism—Ten Commandments (spoken in unison):

    1. You shall have no other gods.
    2. You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain.
    3. You shall keep the day of rest holy.
    4. Honor your father and your mother, that it may be well with           you, and that you may live long on the earth.
    5. You shall not murder.
    6. You shall not commit adultery.
    7. You shall not steal.
    8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
    9. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.
  10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his manser-vant,           nor his maidservant, nor his cattle, nor anything that is his.

4. The Small Catechism—The Apostles’ Creed (spoken in unison):
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.   And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was con-ceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Al-mighty; from there He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

5. A Suitable Prayer for Breakfast: The eyes of all wait upon You, O Lord, and You give them their food in due season; You open Your had and satisfy the desire of every living thing. Lord God, heavenly Father, bless us and these Your gifts which we receive from Your bountiful goodness, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
Following the meal, a hymn, the following or another suitable prayer may be used: Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His mercy en-dures forever. We thank you, Lord God, heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for all Your benefits, You who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.

AN EVENING LITURGY FOR THE FAMILY
1. Invocation (all shall make the sign of the cross and say): In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

2. Another suitable bedtime prayer may be used, or Luther’s prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have graciously kept me this day; and I pray You to forgive me all my sins where I have done wrong, and graciously keep me this night. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the wicked foe may have no power over me. Amen.

3. The Small Catechism—Ten Commandments: The family may read or recite together a commandment with its meaning from the Small Catechism.

4. A Bible Story

5. The Small Catechism—The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy king-dom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

A hymn selection from the previous Sunday’s service may follow. And then lie down in peace, and sleep.
